In Chinese tradition, during Chinese New Year celebrations, noodles are one of the dishes served. Because noodles are a symbol of long life, happiness, and abundant sustenance. So, here are 6 types of food that look like noodles!

Soun

Soun is a food made from various types of starch, such as mung bean, potato, sweet potato, and cassava starch. This food is usually thin like a thread. Sometimes, glass noodles are also called glass noodles. Because, after soaking in warm water, the glassware looks transparent like glass. The texture of the soun is generally very chewy.

In Indonesia, soun is usually processed into fried soun or as a mixture of Soto. To process the vermicelli, no need to boil it, just soak it in hot water for 3 – 6 minutes, then drain.

Vermicelli

Soun and vermicelli are similar but not the same. The white color makes the vermicelli look similar to vermicelli. The difference is that vermicelli is made from rice flour. There are various sizes, some are long and some are wide.

The texture of the vermicelli is chewy and when cooked it easily mixes with the cooking spices. Usually, the vermicelli is cooked into fried vermicelli, boiled vermicelli, or into a mixture of ketoprak and meatballs. Before cooking, the dried vermicelli is soaked in hot water or it can be boiled half-cooked.

Misoa

Misoa is white like vermicelli. The difference is, misoa is made from wheat flour and is very thin. Misoa cooks quickly so many people add it to soups. There are also people who cook misoa into steamed misoa, fried misoa, and much more.

Spaghetti

Spaghetti is one of the most popular dishes in Italy. In Italian, the word “spaghetti” means small or string. Spaghetti is a type of pasta that looks like noodles. Spaghetti sizes are quite diverse. This food is served with several choices of spices such as bolognese sauce and carbonara sauce.

Udon

This one food is more often known as thick noodles from Japan. Udon is made from flour. Usually, udon is served in a savory broth with various toppings. Udon is usually white in color and has a chewy and soft texture.

Kwetiau

Kwetiau is flat and wide. This food is made from rice flour or wheat flour. Usually, kwetiau is served in several choices of dishes. Some are fried and some are boiled.
